Inner Lip and Finger Tattoos
Are lip tattoos worth it?
Inner lip tattoos can be fun and quirky, but how long do they actually last? Pigments that make up the tattoo get broken down by the chemicals and acids that are found naturally inside the mouth, which tends to cause any tattoo inside the mouth to fade much quicker than anywhere else. Typically, an inner lip tattoo can last between 1 to 5 years, but it varies depending on the person. Is this a reason to avoid lip tattoos? No! The great thing about inner lip tattoos is that you can get something ridiculous even if you are not committed to it and are looking for something fun and temporary.
Why is my finger tattoo fading?
Something to consider before getting a finger tattoo is that we use our hands for most daily tasks, and they are constantly exposed to conditions (ie; dirt, sunlight, and water) that damage the skin more than other areas of the body. Typically, your finger tattoo will need to be touched up as it will begin to fade and you might even see some patchy areas during/after the healing period so if you’re willing to commit to seeing your tattoo artist regularly then a finger tattoo is a beautiful addition to your collection!
Simple goes a long way!
If you’re thinking of getting a tattoo on your finger or inner lip, because those areas tend to fade faster, it’s better to go for a simpler design, like a short letter word/name, symbol, or simple line-work. Since space is limited on these areas of the body, any fine details like intricate line-work or shading will become lost, and you run the risk of tattoo blowout. Which is a common fault that occurs with finger tattoos. In the long run, a less intricate design is easier to re-ink and will be much easier to maintain!
